Local small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly looking to grow their businesses internationally and access new markets to mitigate the effects of a global economic slowdown, and ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Last week, the ECN ran a workshop for voter and civic education officers at Otjiwarongo. I had the honour, in my capacity as the Chairperson of the Research, Voter and Civic Education and Media Liaison Committee of the ECN, to give the opening remarks at that workshop.

Economic research has shown that when countries trade with each other, global wealth grows, and all countries gain. No doubt, trade is an engine of economic growth.

One of the reasons for taking up arms and sacrifice the lives of many Namibians was to change and improve the inferior education system offered by the colonialists to the indigenous peoples of Namibia.

A mechanic failure is observed from the number of obsolete cars in his backyard. A doctor’s failure is found at the graveyard, while a teacher’s failure is observed in the number of youths roaming the street.

More often than not, the generic perception of a public good exerts an understanding of infrastructural setups.

For many years as a Christian scholar, I pondered if I had to contribute to political issues. For at least a number of years, I was distant, until I leant these: understanding politics is critical, because every law that is made impacts nearly every aspect of our lives.

Recently, the local media scene has been abuzz with criticism and condemnation of President Hage Geingob’s international and regional missions, which some commentators described as a waste of financial resources not adding any value to the President’s governance mandate of staying at home and addressing pressing socio-economic challenges. 

Namibia continues to mainly export primary commodities compared to processed goods, particularly in the sector of agriculture, forestry and fishing.
