Hundreds of communal farmers, displaced by floods several months ago in the Caprivi Region and who were recently relocated, have started ploughing on the flood plains.
Most farmers would need food relief as they lost their crops and shelter to the heavy floods.
Acting Director of the Directorate Emergency Management in the Office of the Prime Minister, Gabriel Kangowa, yesterday said the inhabitants of the flood plains such as Itomba – home to nearly 500 residents – have started planting maize and other early maturing varieties of crops such as pumpkins.
The Government through the Regional Emergency Management Unit (REMU) continues to provide food to the relocated farmers.
The exercise will last for three months, Kangowa said.
