President Hage Geingob visited Kavango West on Saturday to see first-hand the various development projects at Nkurenkuru, before he departed for Windhoek having earlier toured Kavango East on Friday.

His last visit was during the election campaigns last year.

“I promised to come back so here I am,” said Geingob.

“The governor [Sirkka Ausiku] gave us all your problems […] talking about the road to go to Mururani Gate, saying instead of going through Rundu you want to go straight. Then she said there are young people who are unemployed.

Now my order is: collect those young people, [we] will provide the tools and then start to open up the road. Unemployed, collect them, give us the names and we will organise. Comrade [Frans] Kapofi, [Minister of Presidential Affairs] – you are in charge. Let’s provide solutions, so when they finish we will come and make it a tarred road but begin now,” Geingob said.

During his visit before meeting the community, who were cheerfully waiting at the Nkurenkuru community hall, the President was taken on a tour after the governor Ausiku briefed him on the region’s needs and plans.

The President went on to have a meeting with the regional leadership and traditional leaders at the Nkurenkuru Town Council boardroom, where they further briefed him on the challenges the new region faces and the urgent issues the government needs to look into.

Geingob was taken to Extension 7, where the planned government office park is to be constructed, as well as to the construction site of the Nkurenkuru health centre, which is due to be completed in November.

He was also taken through the plan of development for Nkurenkuru, which is the capital of Kavango West.
“This is a new town, plan it properly, I like the idea,” Geingob said.

Before flying bck to Windhoek he toured Sikondo green scheme, 10 km west of Rundu, to familiarise himself with the project.

Before visiting Kavango West, Geingob started his familiarization visit in Zambezi on Wednesday and Thursday. On Thursday afternoon he departed for Kavango East Region, where he addressed the Kavango East community at a meeting in Rundu on Friday, after meeting tradional leaders as well as the regional leadership. He was also taken for a tour to the Rundu fresh produce hub, as well as the mass housing project.
