RUNDU – A 29-year-old man detained for allegedly stabbing another man to death on Saturday at Kehemu, made a routine court appearance on a murder charge on Monday,
Moyo Thomas Moyo, 29, allegedly fatally stabbed Divingi Nghituwamata Mathews, 25 on Saturday at around 21h00 at Ndelipona – a watering hole at Kehemu location in Rundu. According to police, both the suspect and victim are unemployed residents of Kehemu, “were both drunk and they just started fighting.”
The victim succumbed to the stab injury inflicted on the left side of his chest with an Okapi knife. Moyo’s case was postponed to October 27 by the Rundu Magistrate’s Court to enable the police to conclude investigations into the alleged murder. Magistrate Desmond Beukes presided over the case while Prosecutor Maria Andimba appeared for the State.
The suspect was denied bail because of the seriousness of the charge that he faces. Meanwhile, the police at Rundu have opened a case of rape after a 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped in the early Saturday hours just after midnight on 30 August. It is alleged on Saturday after midnight the unknown suspect dragged the victim, as she was coming out of bar into a nearby barber shop into Nkarapamwe location of Rundu, undressed her and allegedly raped her. The victim after being raped ran to the police and opened a case of rape.
The suspect is still unknown to both the police and the victim and it is making his arrest difficult. “The suspect dragged the victim in a barber shop opposite Pick n Pay Shopping Centre and raped her there,” said Detective Inspector, Hendricks Mukubesa Mulele of the Namibian police in Rundu. He added that the suspect has not yet been arrested because no one could identify him as there were no witnesses and the victim could not identify him either as it was dark. The police, however, are appealing to the public if they have information that could help in this case to come forward and assist in order for the suspect to be arrested as he could do it again to another person. “People should not walk alone at night as it is not safe, be it a man or woman.” Mulele said. Detective inspector Hendricks Mukubesa Mulele told New Era that investigations are ongoing.
