Seven men accused of the gang murder of a Swakopmund man, the attempted murder of another and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm on 31 October 2012, were acquitted on all charges in the Swakopmund Regional Court last week.

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) parliamentarian Nico Smit has blamed the authorities, including police chief Sebastian Ndeitunga and gender minister Doreen Sioka, for the spike in violent crimes, saying they are the main culprits “in this unacceptable situation, where women and girls are afraid of entering a taxi or walking on our streets”. 

A Windhoek teacher, who stands accused of fatally stabbing his wife multiple in April last year, is scheduled to tender his preliminary plea next week.

Another State witness yesterday testified about the alleged firearm that the two American citizens, accused of the assassin-like murder of Andre Heckmair in Windhoek in 2011, enquired about buying.

ONGWEDIVA – A 29-year-old man was granted bail of N$800 in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for allegedly stealing a goat at Etayi in the Omusati region recently. 

The case of a Namibian Defence Force (NDF) soldier, who is facing criminal charges for allegedly shooting and killing a Zimbabwean national last year, is scheduled to continue next year.
