The agricultural industry is finding the going very tough and all sectors are expected to decline further this year due to the devastating drought. 

Namibia is preparing measures to protect its beef exports to Europe, as part of its Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union, against the possible repercussions of Brexit. 

Negotiations regarding the continuation of Namibian beef exports to the United Kingdom (UK) are handled at the highest level, despite difficulties between the European Union (EU) and Britain regarding Brexit negotiations, the Meat Board of Namibia has confirmed. 

WINDHOEK ‑ Agricultural lender, Agribank, has announced drought relief initiatives in an effort to offer relief and support to farmers countrywide.

WINDHOEK ‑ The current low level of water in the Hardap Dam is hindering irrigation and affecting fodder like lucerne production, which is a very important component in dairy production for optimal milk quantities. 

WINDHOEK - Having served the Namibian community for 99 years, Old Mutual has expressed its grave concern about farmers suffering in one of the worst droughts in decades which has caused President Hage Geingob to declare it a national disaster.

WINDHOEK - Livestock prices fell drastically, while the Agri-inflation rate increased substantially during the first quarter of 2019 as farmers are reeling from yet another drought which negatively affected both cattle and sheep prices, as well as fodder production and fodder prices. 

OMUTHIYA - Animal technicians from various veterinary offices in Oshikoto Region were hard at work for the past three days, treating animals over suspected presence of a Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), simply known as Congo Fever,  in the area.

WINDHOEK – The 2019 Agra National Weaner Auction Championships was launched last week Thursday with the aim of recognising and rewarding producers for good quality weaner calves. 

WINDHOEK - The Meat Board of Namibia (MBN) is assisting the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) with maintenance of the veterinary cordon fence (VCF) through the appointment of temporary fencing teams, servicing of a grader, transporting of fencing material and, in collaboration with the Namibian Agricultural Union (NAU), funding audits of the VCF and border fences to determine the status of the fences.
