WINDHOEK - The Meat Board of Namibia has initiated and financed the preparation of a dossier regarding the Namibian cattle tuberculosis status. 

WINDHOEK - Despite severe drought conditions, cattle exports declined considerably by 26.49 percent in the first quarter of the year due to weak demand for weaners by South African feedlots who were adversely affected by Foot-and-Mouth Disease-related trade restrictions. Since weaner exports are a leading contributor to the sector’s performance, their decline greatly influenced an overall weak performance. 

WINDHOEK - The pods of the majestic camelthorn tree are now more precious and valuable than ever in especially the drought-stricken South where farmers are grasping at straws in order to save themselves and their livestock.

WINDHOEK – The Meatco Foundation, Meatco’s corporate social investment wing, has been supporting individuals and farmers’ organisations to improve their plight of farmers, especially in communal areas, focusing on the livestock sector.

WINDHOEK - During its most recent meeting, The Meat Board has approved an additional condition with regard to the export of sheep under the sheep marketing scheme.  

WINDHOEK - Hanse van der Merwe of Farm Ludwighaven in the Oshikoto Region was crowned Master Agronomist of the Year during the recently held annual member meeting of the Agronomy Producers Association (APA) and the Master Agronomist Day outside Tsumeb.

SEËIS - The Namibian Police Force is to launch a full-scale investigation into their own after several complaints were received from Seëis residents and farmers about a herd of some 250 goats, allegedly belonging to the police personnel of the Seëis Police Station, which has become a grave danger to motorists on the B6 from Windhoek to Gobabis.

WINDHOEK – As the drought worsens, the Roads Authority (RA) has noted with concern the increase in the number of animals (cattle and other domestic animals) grazing within the road reserves of the national road network, as well as the unauthorised cutting of grass along these roads.

WINDHOEK – The Namibia Farmers Drought Aid Programme of Steinhausen/Stampriet rancher Henriette le Grange has added its voice to the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) in cooperation with the Namibia Emerging Commercial Farmers

WINDHOEK - Farmers in Namibia now have new crop varieties of cowpea and sorghum that are more tolerant to drought and pests planted this year, thanks to nuclear technology provided with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
