Home National Cops pounce on alleged dagga dealer

RUNDU – The Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Namibian Police in Kavango East on Friday arrested a 23-year-old woman who was allegedly found in possession of cannabis.

The woman was arrested at 14h00 last Friday, 12 September at Kayengona village some 8 km east of Rundu.

The suspect was arrested after police received a tip-off from the community that she was selling drugs and they then set up a sting operation to apprehend her.

“After getting a tip-off from the community we sent someone to go test-buy it and she was arrested,” Deputy Police Commissioner Sam !Nawaseb told New Era.

According to !Nawaseb the woman was apprehended with 40 grams of cannabis in her possession.

Drugs is a concern in many rural communities of Kavango East and the police are on their toes but need community support to arrest the culprits.

“We are doing our job but we also need the community to come up front and report such people, give us a tip-off even secretly because this is happening in the community and they know who are the people involved but they don’t want to talk,” lamented !Nawaseb.

The 23-year-old suspect whose name is known to New Era but cannot be released on ethical grounds is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court today.

The newly promoted Deputy Commissioner for Kavango East !Nawaseb told New Era that investigations are in progress. “We want to catch the masterminds of this dagga business – where can the 23-year-old woman get it?” he said.
