Home Time Out Entries for Music Week in Swakopmund now open

WINDHOEK- Registration for the annual Swakopmunder Musikwoche, Music Week, taking place during the December holiday season in Swakopmund has started.

The Swakopmunder Musikwoche is an annual music event taking place in the town of Swakopmund under the patronage of the German Evangelic-Lutheran church. Every December music professionals are brought from national and international institutions to instruct and assist young and old lay musicians from far and wide. The event normally lasts nine to ten days and culminates in a series of concerts offered to the public.  With the support of Bank Windhoek, the organisation will also be present at the Windhoek Show and participants are invited to go and meet some of the musicians and complete their entry forms at the stall.

Younger participants may still register for the Junior Orchestra, the Recorder Ensemble (for the first time this year with afternoon lectures for the advanced players), the Jazz Band, the Concert Band, the

Grand Orchestra or the Choir. The Swakopmunder Musikwoche is proud to announce that again this year excellent lecturers have agreed to join the event. The musical director will be Alexander Fokkens (South Africa) and Hans-Jochen Stiefel will conduct the choir. The Junior Orchestra will be in the expert hands of Irene Schultz-Neumann. Both Irene and Hans-Jochen are from Germany. Due to the increasing demand, five lecturers were appointed for Brass and Concert Band this year. The director for brass is Dr Eric McIntyre from America and the Concert Band is in the capable hands of Johann Pretorius (SA).

Amongst others, Hans-Peter Drobisch (woodwinds), Danré Strydom (clarinets), Michelle du Preez (oboes) and Steven Meier (America) will be leading the Jazz Band and saxophones to new heights. The organisers look forward to welcoming all participants and the audience again in December. Surely, this is not an event to be missed as it is regarded as the cultural highlight of the year. The Swakopmunder Musikwoche is organised and run entirely by volunteers and is operated as a non-profit entity. Registration ends on November 20 and the main event will take place on December 12 to December 21. Registration can be done via the website www.musikwoche.com or an entry form can be requested from the organisers by sending an E-mail to info@musikwoche.com.
