WINDHOEK – The International University of Management (IUM) will only issue certificates to students provided they meet required obligations.
IUM media officer Meke Nambili explained that the privately owned IUM only issues certificates on condition students meet both academic and financial obligations for its programmes.
New Era reported on Monday that IUM refused to give some of the graduates their diplomas apparently due to outstanding fees, while others were given theirs without any complications.
One of the students told New Era she completed her national diploma in human resources management last year with no outstanding fees, and this year she enrolled for an honours degree in the same course but was not given the diploma due to outstanding fees for the current course.
Apparently when she tried to find out why the current course was linked to the previous one, she was told by an unnamed IUM staff that IUM has changed its policies and therefore cannot hand over any certificates, diplomas or degrees to people with outstanding fees irrespective of whether their previous course fees were settled.
Nambili said IUM encourages all students to use the official channels to lodge complaints, thus in that way any issues can be handled by the appropriate authorities and dealt with swiftly.
