RUNDU – A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an inmate at Nepemba Rehabilitation Centre some 10 km west of Rundu along the Rundu/Grootfontein road.
It is alleged the minor was using the toilet at the canteen at the rehabilitation centre when the prisoner raped her.
“The girl went to use the toilet and the prisoner got her in the toilet and raped her,” said a source that requested anonymity.
The victim’s mother who is a government employee when approached for more information was still in shock and unable to speak to New Era.
“I cannot speak to you now, I am not ready but the girl is my daughter, I’m waiting for the doctors to do their job first,” said the mother who cannot be named on ethical grounds .
Police spokesman for Kavango East, Chief Inspector Sam !Nawaseb confirmed the defilement of the underaged girl.
He said a case of alleged rape was reported to the police and an investigation is currently underway.
The victim was rushed to the Rundu Intermediate Hospital just after the incident. The incident happened last Sunday morning on 24 August, 2014.
