The police in Oshana Region have arrested a man for allegedly attacking his lover three times with a panga on Thursday night.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the woman is believed to be in her late 40s, while the suspect is in his late 20s. The two are said to have been cohabitating for two years.

According to the police, the victim was struck on the left arm, right hand, as well as on the back. “The injuries were not too serious, so she was treated and discharged the following morning,” the deputy commissioner highlighted.

Head of Oshakati police operations Deputy Commissioner Karel Theron confirmed the incident. According to Theron, the assault occurred at the Onelago Cuca shops at around 21h00 last Thursday night.

Details of the alleged attack have not yet been made public but police investigations into the matter are said to be ongoing.

The victim is said to have been rushed to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, but has since been discharged. The suspect had been on the run since the alleged attack, but was arrested on Friday morning.

The police were first alerted to his whereabouts by members of the public who spotted the suspect getting into a taxi on Friday morning.

The police reportedly followed the taxi to Adolf location, where the suspect was eventually arrested. The police could not provide the names of the suspect and victim pending the suspect’s appearance in court. The alleged attacked will appear in court today.
